FAQs

  • Regular season practices will start July 23, with games beginning in September. Our regular season runs through the end of October and occasionally into November. Playoffs and Provincial Championships are held late in November.

Practices will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Starting on August 17, we will be adding Saturday morning practices to the schedule.

Games are on Sundays, starting the second Sunday in September.

  • Our teams are inclusive of all genders and are open to all experience levels.
Coaches will work with athletes to teach them safe contact and the fundamentals of the game.

The biggest factor for success on the field is a commitment to practicing and learning.

Our teams range from ages 8-13. If you have a young athlete outside of this age group, feel free to reach out so we can direct you to the appropriate group.

  • We live in a beautiful part of the world, and expect that many families will be out enjoying the short summer season that we have.

Practices are crucial for athlete safety and development. If you are away during this time, it doesn’t mean that your child can’t play, but it does mean that they will have some catch up to do. They also might not be ready to play for the first game(s) of the season.

Games start at the beginning of September, and athletes need to have a firm grasp of skills and plays in order to compete safely in a game. Athletes will not be able to play in games unless their coach feels that it is safe for them to do so. These early September games are the reason that practices start in the summer, and why we encourage early registration and active participation at each practice.

  • Teams are based out of Salmon Arm. Our home field is at Little Mountain, but we will occasionally use school fields or the indoor field for practices.

With the 55+ games being held in Salmon Arm during the 2024 season, we may be utilizing school fields more frequently for practices.

  • The Southern Interior Football Conference includes West Kelowna, Kelowna, Vernon, Salmon Arm, and Kamloops.
Penticton is working on rejoining minor football and we are excited for the possibility of games against them in the coming years.

Provincial finals location will be announced later in the season. One team from each league at each level will advance to provincials.

  • SMFA provides gear on loan to participants with the understanding that it will be returned in good condition at the end of the season. (Game socks and mouth guards are yours to keep, please!)

A gear loan form will need to be completed prior to gear being issued, including a post-dated cheque or credit card on file as a security.

Cleats and base layer clothing of choice are the only equipment that you are required to purchase. If you cannot afford to purchase cleats, please let us know as we often have donated pairs.

  • Low income families may be eligible for program funding through KidSport or Jumpstart.

Please visit their websites for information and applications, and let us know if you require further assistance.

We offer payment plans for early registrations, allowing payments to be split. Full payment is required before receiving equipment.

Please contact us if you need to make additional arrangements beyond this.

  • During our regular season, each athlete is expected to participate in fundraising. We try to keep this fun and easy to succeed at!

Volunteers are an important part of any non-profit organization. We rely on parents and community members to help manage the teams, assist as the line crew, and organize special events. We look forward to working with you this season.
A volunteer security will need to be supplied for each athlete. If you want to opt out of volunteering, you can pay the fee in advance and we can then hire a student to fill those hours. Please see the Volunteer Policy in our Resources section for full details.

  • Please see our Resources section for the cancellation and refund policies.
